A review of X Bend
DVD only
Shows you how to create the effect of bending a borrowed coin with just your fingers.
Unlike some other methods that use a device hidden in the hand to create the bend in real time, this one presumes you prep a coin in advance and then execute a switch before/during the spectator receiving it.
On the one hand, I’m disappointed because the sales pitch claimed ‘no sleight of hand, no gimmicks, etc’ – and it very clearly requires at least one or two coin sleights for the switch – but on the other hand, this is a period possible magic effect.
Some assumptions are that you the traveling magician, would know the common coin of the land and be able to secure a few examples. You could prepare the coins ahead of time, then be ready to do this when it seemed appropriate. No sharpies to write on the coin, but something to scratch the coin with might work. They make a few lines or simple shapes instead of writing with ink. Alternatively something for the milled edges (wax, clay, lipstick, etc)
